6th: Paul & Joe

There is no doubt that Paul & Joe’s spring 2016 Papillons de Printemps makeup collection features prints with exquisite details, but I do feel that some of them can look slightly fussy and I miss the lovely floral patterns which the brand excels at. The new Powder Blush replaced Cheek Color from spring 2013, and 03, 08 and 09 look appealing to me. I also like Lipstick CS in 096.

5th: Lunasol

For me, the stand-out item from Lunasol’s spring 2016 Sparkling Purification makeup collection is Sparkling Eyes in 01 Gold Sparkling. It is one of the few eyeshadow palettes recently released by Lunasol that I did (briefly) consider getting. The collection also includes the new Coloring Sheer Cheeks. All the shades look quite wearable, and hopefully there will be additional ones later.

4th: Chanel

Chanel’s spring 2016 L. A. Sunrise makeup collection would definitely be among the top three if the lilac in Les 4 Ombres in 262 Tissé Beverly Hills (pictured above) had more depth. Alas, it is too light for me. I do like Sunkiss Ribbon Harmonie de Blush and Rouge Coco Shine in 116 Mighty (both pictured above), and overall it is still a pleasingly colorful collection.

Kanebo Coffret d’Or launched Full Smile Eyes as part of the line’s late summer/ early fall 2014 makeup collection. Four variations were released for the collection, and additional ones were released later on. Today I will be focusing on 01 Apricot Beige from the collection.

Kanebo Coffret d’Or Full Smile Eyes in 01 Apricot Beige (カネボウ コフレドール フルスマイルアイズ 01 アプリコットベージュ/ 佳麗寶 金炫光燦 燦笑眼影盒 01 Apricot Beige, ¥3200) contains two off-whites, a subtly sparkly light peach, an apricot-toned brown beige with pearly shimmer and a warm chocolate brown. All the shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles, and they all have a good staying power.

The off-white on the upper right has an almost-moist texture and is designed to be used as a base. The off-white on the upper left is designed to be used as a highlighting shade.

None of the shades is too sparkly. The only thing I need to be careful with is layering the two off-white shades on the upper eyelids. I try to be light-handed with them so that they don’t create an overly-pearly finish. Alternatively, I only use one of the two.

The light peach is designed to brighten the inner 2/3 of the lower lashlines. I was worried that it might look too pearly or too sparkly, but it actually looks quite natural even on top of the off-white base (when the two are layered according to the instructions).

The apricot-toned brown beige is a relatively light shadowing shade. It creates a soft and natural shadow, and it is hard to go wrong with this shade if you tend to prefer warm neutrals to cool ones. Even though I tend to prefer gold-toned warm neutrals to peach-toned warm neutrals, this shade works well for me. The only slight complaint I have about this shade is that it is not as pigmented as how I would like it to be. (It is slightly less pigmented than most of the shadowing shades from Coffret d’Or that I have come across.)

While the warm chocolate brown is dark enough to be an eyelining shade, it is lighter than the eyelining shades in Coffret d’Or’s Beauty Face Shadow in 02 Cream Brown from 2012 and 3D Gradation Eyes in 02 Mint Brown from 2013. I do like the warmth of the shade, but, as an eyelining shade, I would prefer it to be just a little bit darker.

Overall, this palette creates a soft look that is very suitable for daytime. Also, in Japan, makeup looks that incorporate lighter eyeshadows (that don’t create a very pronounced shadow) and more intense colors for cheeks and lips seem to be on trend right now. (Lunasol’s Tender Clear Eyes and Clear Colorful Eyes are reflecting this trend.) 01 Apricot Beige should appeal to those who want to go for a subtler eye makeup look. (For your reference, this palette ranked fifth on the 2014 list of Biteki readers’ favorite eyeshadow palettes (Biteki, February 2015).)

Back in 2007, I mentioned that Lunasol‘s fall 2007 Dual Glowing Purification makeup collection was one of the brand’s most stunning makeup collections. Nine years and thirty-four seasonal collections later, I still think this collection, inspired by jewel-toned hues, is one of the best from the brand. Today, I will be reviewing Geminate Eyes in 05 RB from the collection.

Kanebo Lunasol Geminate Eyes in 05 RB (カネボウ ルナソル ジェミネイトアイズ 05 RB/ 佳麗寶 日月晶采 光燦寶石眼盒 05 RB, ¥5000) is one of the five variations of Geminate Eyes released in fall 2007. (Currently, only 01 CE & 05 RB are available.) “RB” presumably stands for “ruby”.

The palette contains a cream white (with subtle sparkles), an off-white pink (with high-toned pearly shimmer), a light-to-medium rose pink (with pearly shimmer), a dark plum (with a pearly glow) and a very sparkly topcoat with mostly silver-toned and pink-toned sparkles. All the shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles. They are all very easy to apply and blend.

Even though all the five shades are either shimmery or sparkly, there is virtually no fallout during or after the application. Except the dark plum (more on this shade below), both the color and the finish of the shades last well.

My favorite shade in the palette is the rose pink. It is just dark enough to be a soft shadowing shade and I like its pearly shimmer. The dark plum is intensely pigmented and exceptionally smooth and creamy. Lining the eyes with this shade is very easy and efficient. The only downside is that, possibly due to its almost-wet texture, it can start to look patchy and uneven towards the end of wear.

The look created with all five shades is shimmery and sparkly, but it is not too over-the-top for me. (I use the sparkly topcoat sparingly in the middle parts of the upper eyelids to add extra dimension to the eyes.) To create a less bling-y look, I skip the cream white (which is designed to be used as a base and a brow bone highlighter) and the topcoat. The off-white pink, the rose pink and the dark plum can still create a complete look and it is more suitable for daytime. (None of the shades in this pink-toned palette makes the eyes look irritated.)

Overall, I like this palette a lot. It is one of the most pink-toned eyeshadow palettes that Lunasol has ever released, but it still creates feminine looks that are not overly girlie and are consistent with the brand’s aesthetics. This is currently among my three favorite eyeshadow palettes from the brand. (The other two are Sheer Contrast Eyes in 02 Lavender Coral (still one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes) and Vivid Clear Eyes in 04 Khaki Beige Collection.)

Last November, I reviewed Chicca‘s Flush Blush Powder in 04 Sweet Pink in my Stash Debut series. (It was my first purchase from Chicca.) Today I will be sharing my thoughts on Mesmeric Lipstick, which has been a popular item from the brand. The shade I have is 08 Rose Glacé.

Kanebo Chicca Mesmeric Lipstick in 08 Rose Glacé (カネボウ キッカ メスメリック リップスティック 08 ローズグラッセ, ¥3800) was released in summer 2014. It is a medium-depth warm red-toned rose. It has a light-to-medium pigmentation level and it imparts a soft sheen on the lips with semi-sparse gold-toned and silver-toned shimmer. It glides on easily and feels lightweight and hydrating on the lips. The color has a decent staying power, and the shimmer generally outlasts the color.

Mesmeric Lipstick was launched in spring 2014 and it replaced Enticing Lipstick, which had been among Chicca’s makeup lineup since the brand’s launch in spring 2008. It is described by the brand as a lipstick that has a “2/5” pigmentation level and combines fresh color with translucency. Essentially, 08 Rose Glacé delivers the brand’s promises. It does have, as mentioned, a light-to-medium pigmentation level (which is what I think a 2/5 pigmentation level means), and the color shows up sufficiently while looking translucent.

I think the general appeal of the Mesmeric Lipstick range is that most people will find that they can wear many shades from the range, and I certainly think that 08 Rose Glacé is a very wearable shade.

My only (very) minor issue with this shade is that I find that some of its shimmering particles are slightly on the large side, but, overall, I do like it. Its pigmentation level is particularly appealing to me, and I like its elegant color with a grown-up feel. It gently enhances the red tone of my lips, and its warm tone goes well with my warm-toned neutral eyeshadows.

They look fresh and breezy, but I do miss the medium-depth warm-toned neutrals from some of the brand’s past summer makeup collections. Among the collection, I am the most interested in the new Sheer Light Gloss.

For me, the standout item in Lancôme‘s summer 2016 makeup collection is the limited-edition Hypnôse Palette in 27 Ombres d’Été. The violet purple looks very striking against the warm-toned yellow gold, khaki brown and deep chocolate brown.

7th: Jill Stuart

Jill Stuart’s summer 2016 Romantic Marine makeup collection also has a nautical theme. Both the makeup colors and the product packaging feature red, blue and white. I like the look of the new Forever Juicy Oil Rouge Sheer, which is designed to be more translucent than the fairly pigmented Forever Juicy Oil Rouge.

6th: Coffret d’Or

June is usually the time when Coffret d’Or releases a new regular series of eyeshadow palettes, but, this year, there will be five limited-edition variations of Beauty Summer Palette in July. Each variation features three eyeshadows and two lip colors, and the slim case resembles the case for Beauty C Curve Eyes from 2010.

Coffret d’Or used to release a new regular series of eyeshadow palettes towards the end of the year but it hasn’t done so since 2012. (The line used to release two new eyeshadow palette series each year.) Also, the line’s seasonal release schedule has changed considerably over the last couple of years. I wonder whether we are going to see other new developments from the line in the next few seasons.

5th: Kesalan Patharan

Kesalan Patharan’s summer 2016 makeup collection features seven new shades of Smooth Lips. The fact that they are of the new “(S)” (sheer) type has caught my attention, and I like the more cool-toned PK01(S) and PK02(S).

4th: NARS

NARS’ summer 2016 makeup collection includes four new shades of Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow and two new variations of Dual-Intensity Blush from the Under Cover collection, and Dual-Intensity Eyeshadows in 1943 Pool Shark and 1944 Deep End are the highlights for me. I like the hint of lilac and pink iridescence in 1943 Pool Shark, which adds dimension to the shade. While 1944 Deep End is still my favorite item of the collection, I wish it were a little more blue-toned and a little more vibrant.

A few months ago, I reviewed Kanebo Coffret d’Or‘s Full Smile Eyes in 01 Apricot Beige. Today I will be focusing on 03 Bronze Brown from the same series.

Kanebo Coffret d’Or Full Smile Eyes in 03 Bronze Brown (カネボウ コフレドール フルスマイルアイズ 03 ブロンズブラウン/ 佳麗寶 金炫光燦 燦笑眼影盒 03 Bronze Brown, ¥3200) was released as part of the line’s late summer/ early fall 2014 makeup collection. It contains three off-whites, a bronze brown (with a subtle taupe-mushroom tone and pearly shimmer) and a dark brown. All the shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles, and they all have a good staying power.

The three off-whites have different purposes. The off-white on the upper right has an almost-moist texture and is designed to be used as a base. The off-white on the upper left is designed to be used as a highlighting shade for the upper eyelids. The off-white on the middle right is designed to be used as a highlighting shade for the inner 2/3 of the lower lashlines.

As with 01 Apricot Beige, none of the shades is too sparkly. Also, my comments on the three off-whites are essentially the same as those on the two off-whites and the light peach in 01 Apricot Beige.

The bronze brown is darker and more pigmented than the brown beige in 01 Apricot Beige, and it is also more gold-toned and bronze-toned. It works much better for me as a shadowing shade in terms of both color tone and color depth. (I can probably do without the subtle taupe-mushroom tone, but I am being a little picky here.)

The dark brown is marginally darker than the dark brown in 01 Apricot Beige. I would still prefer it to be a little darker, but it works well for me as an eyelining shade when applied fairly heavy-handedly.

Overall I like this palette and I prefer it to 01 Apricot Beige. It is less warm-toned than 01 Apricot Beige but it is certainly still on the warm side. It creates sufficient depth and dimension for the eyes, and the colors are sufficiently warm-toned for me. Whereas 01 Apricot Beige is lighter, fresher and more spring-like, 03 Bronze Brown is more low-key and sensual and has an autumnal feel.
